Bmw Fault Code List
Hi guys a mate of mine has just bought an X3 2.5 from a friend of his. It has full history and is a well looked after car with 89k.
They have owned it a week then filled it up at a supermarket fuel station. They drove down the road,it lost power started smoking and the EML came on. I went out to it with my LAUNCH but by this time it had stopped smoking and was running fine again.
Fault codes present
279C-thermostat map cooling
2882 fuel trim bank 1
2883 fuel trim bank 2.
Since this ive been out to it and i basically said it must be the fuel. Anyway theyve since decided to drive the car and empty the tank through driving(against my advice) then top up with 98ron from a leading brand. Still the light has come on so they have called me back.
From cold ive watched all four lambdas in graph form from cold. both pre lambdas switching ok and post cat ones switching much slower as they do.After 5 mins all 4 sensors drop to 0 volys and basically flat line. The car then starts running rough as if overfuelling.
Why would all four sensors drop to zero volts at the same time as if they have been shut down although the status remains as 'active'???
Any help id really appreciate. Karlos
